Maximize the Life of Your Laptop Battery
You have noticed that your laptop battery isn't working as long as it used to work. There are a couple of things that might be the reason why your battery isn't quite up to par like it used to be. The usage habit of your laptop could be one thing that is why your battery isn't holding a charge like it used to do.
There are physical devices on your laptop that requires using electricity and will cause your battery to not last very long. The hard drive, floppy drive and CD-ROM are physical devices that can cause your battery to be draining your electricity. Some processes that you are using on your laptop may be causing your physical memory to become consumed in your laptop system. This will cause the system to switch over to the virtual memory in order to finish the current project that you are in the process of completing. The virtual memory is produced in order to help increase the system memory resources by formulating a memory swap file on the hard drive and convey the information between the hard drive and the physical memory.
The hard drive uses plenty of electricity, the virtual memory will end up using quite a bit of electricity because it has to use the hard drive when it is producing the virtual memory. The audio and display devices can be another factor in excessive use of electricity. You can try to turn down the display screen and it will not be as bright, but it may help lessen the amount of electricity you are using. There are video devices that use graphic programs that also use quite a bit of electricity as well. Video software can also deplete your battery because it uses the virtual memory, computation and calculations.
Battery memory is also a reason why your laptop battery is not lasting quite as long as it used to last. Battery memory is where the battery actually becomes self taught to run on less time than what it really needs to run on to be effective. An example of this is perhaps you only use the laptop on battery for an hour and plug it up to recharge, the battery will become adapted to be functional for only an hour before it is tired and ready to give up.
There are some things that need to be done in order to correct your battery memory problems. Start of by completely draining your battery and then recharge it. Your second step will be to go to your Window Control Panel and select power, then turn of your Power Management. Now you're ready to go into your BIOS and check if there is a power management setting there, if there is, you will need to turn it off as well. Use your Escape key to return to the top level menu. Now select Save settings and then Exit. Unplug your computer, then turn the computer on again and let it run until it has completely used up all the electricity.
After these processes, charge the battery for twelve hours. Once the charging time frame is over, run the computer again until the power is dead and charge the battery again for another twelve hours. Repeat this procedure four times and this will return the computer back to its original power management settings. It is suggested that you should use your battery once every two weeks, and to also keep the battery inside the system so the AC adapter can keep the battery charged all the time. Also, if you do not use the battery for more than two weeks, it is suggested that you totally discharge the battery and keep it at room temperature so it doesn't become damaged from becoming too hot or too cold.
