First, consider the size of your potential backpack. You don't want something that's either too big or too small. Obviously, if your bag is potentially too small, your machine won't fit. And you'll also want to do everything you can to protect your machine if you have a lot of important files and data that you don't want to lose because of an accident, or even sometimes carelessness.

Some of the styles of computer backpacks include briefcases, messenger bags, and more traditional models that have straps that go over your shoulders. Whatever style you choose will of course depend on your needs, including what you choose to carry along with your laptop.

A larger backpack style bag with shoulder straps works best if you need to carry a printer or cables for your laptop. Depending on the bag, you may be able to fit textbooks, notebooks, or any number of school supplies or office supplies in with your laptop.
